Depth 18 inches (45.72 cm)

A mid-19th century painted and parcel gilded console table of serpentine form, the green veined marble top above a carved frieze with central cartouche, swags, stylised acanthus scrolls and husks, all supported upon two cabriole legs with a concave stretcher.

This magnificent, pained console table bears typical Rococo features. Taken from the French ‘rocaille’, the term Rococo means ‘rock’ or ‘broken shell’ and frequently includes natural motifs such as foliage, floral arrangements or garlands as well as romantic symbols. ’S’ and ‘C’ scrolls, asymmetric lines and the inclusion of the acanthus leaf also play a dominant role in this movement; all of which can all be observed in this piece.

This bold, inspired table with its feminine features, curves and decoration juxtaposed against the bold, bold green marble is, without doubt, a true eye catcher.
