An early nineteenth century lacquer cabinet of great scale, the front having two doors, each with a rectangular panel with reentrant corners and decorated with a view of Mount Fuji and a flock of cranes before lowlands, a coast line with trading ships in the foreground, the sides and back continuing the scene, the top of the same, the whole mounted with etched brass corner plates and ornamental carrying handles, the interior fitted with nine drawers, decorated with a flock of cranes, the doors finely embellished internally with eagles amid clouds and scrolling waves. Set upon a later black japanned stand.

The cabinet was acquired from the estate of Lady Alison and Mr. Tom Kremer. Lady Alison was the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Balfour and grand niece of Lord Balfour, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and author of the Balfour Declaration.
