Another recent accusation is a set of four French Hepplewhite mahogany chairs from around 1770, England. The form of these chairs is distinctly French and yet their construction is entirely English. At this time, English designers were greatly inspired by the creations of cabinet makers working at the time of Louis XV.

Also of interest in seating is a set of six Dutch 18th century mahogany dining chairs. Just as the French Hepplewhite armchairs show a distinct fusion of national styles, these dining chairs combine a very English back with a Dutch square tapering leg. Such combinations were the result of an increasingly mobile European population.

Something for your children… These charming 18th century Louis XV painted miniature fauteuils (armchairs) would have been made either as prototypes for traveling furniture salesmen, in essence display models, or for two very important aristocratic infants.
