A very fine early 19th century Regency Period sabicu writing table, the rectangular top with scrolling foliate inlaid border of ebony and satinwood above two short drawers with brass lion mask handles and raised upon double column end supports with engine turned brass capitals and socles, the splayed feet linked by double stretchers and terminating in foliate brass castors.

This use of sabicu as a timber was most unusual in early 19th century cabinet making. As such, this piece falls into the upper echelons of cabinet making in Regency England. The inlaid foliate motifs bear close resemblance to the designs of George Bullock (1782-1818).
