A fine late eighteenth century walnut commode of serpentine form, the overhanging top with star inlay, the three brass handle mounted drawers with strapwork veneers, the sides of the same, all raised on bracket feet.

The inlaid decoration on this commode relates closely to pieces made in the Alsace region of North East France. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, vernacular furniture forms and motifs became well established in European countries and enable us to estimate the birthplace of these pieces today.
