A pair of painted parcel gilded square end tables, having washboard friezes and raised upon square tapering legs.
These classically inspired tables were made during the mid-20th century. They draw inspiration from pieces made in the 1780s and 1790s, during the Neo-classical revival prior to the emergence of Empire style.
The pair belongs to the luxury class of furniture produced shortly after the Second World War as interior decorators and designers sought to recapture the colour and fantasy of previous centuries.
