A fine pair of late 19th century famille verte porcelain vases, decorated throughout with figurative and ornithological scenes, the covers surmounted with seated gilded lions.

The large cartouches, a typical feature of Canton porcelain, decorate the vast majority of the pair of vases. The vibrant enamels in the famille rose palette were added in Canton after glazing and firing had taken place in Jingdezhen. Once they arrived in the port of Canton (Guangzhou) they were painted and exported to Europe and America by sea.

Qing Dynasty – Guangxu Period (1875-1908)
