A 19th century pair of famille verte jars, the bodies with figurative decoration.

In China, dancing has a long standing tradition and can be traced back as early as the Zhou Dynasty (1045–256 BC). While dance seems to have served the purpose of embellishing rituals and ceremonies, it soon found its way into the Imperial Court as a past-time. The two jars shown here represent dance with an array of instruments and banners.
