£3,950

SOLD

A mid-19th century Louis Philippe Period four drawer burr walnut commode, the finely figured carcass surmounted with a shaped wooden top painted to simulate a dark veined marble, the whole raised on turned bun feet.

Louis Philippe I of France (1775-1850) was King of the French from 1830-1850, Furniture from this Period shows the continued movement away from the Classical austerity of the Empire Period, toward a more inventive style. His reign coincided with that of King William IV and later Queen Victoria in Great Britain, and stylistic comparisons can be drawn between the furnishings of both nations at this time.
