22 1/2 inches (57 cm)A fine late eighteenth century painted and parcel gilded console table, the demi-lune marble top set upon a pierced frieze with central ribbon motif, supported upon square tapering foliate carved legs.
This table clearly shows the transition from the frivolous forms and ornament of the rococo period into neo-classicism. The structured frieze and defined foliate carving to the legs look to the emerging rigid design of Louis XVI furniture; yet the central ribbon shows a charming relapse into the rocaille.
