An 18th Century French Hepplewhite Upholstered Armchair

£2,900

SOLD

A Mid-18th century upholstered open mahogany armchair in the French Hepplewhite manner, having scrolling arms and cabriole legs.

This light, elegant design, created in the manner of George Hepplewhite, has a lightness of form for which the cabinet maker has come to be known. The work is slender, well-balanced and curvilinear in shape with delicate carvings and overstuffed upholstery.

Although French in appearance, the lighter drawing of this Louis XV form together with its overstuffed cartouche back are uniquely English design attributes.
