A 17th Century and Later Burr Walnut Side Table

£4,950

SOLD

A Charles II Period burr walnut side table, the quarter veneered top with herringbone inlay and cross-banding above a single drawer with flower petal brass lock escutcheon and drop handles, all supported upon S-scroll legs, conjoined by a shaped stretcher and terminating in bun feet.

While the veneered top and drawer of this table date from the late 17th century, the lower parts were made circa 1900, most probably to replace a damaged base section. The scrolling legs, stretcher and bun feet all conform stylistically and proportionally to the most flamboyant table base designs executed in the late 1600s following the Restoration of the Monarchy in England.
