A Regency Period Mahogany Breakfast Table

£4,900

SOLD

A Regency Period mahogany breakfast table, the well figured circular top supported upon a turned stem with three generously shaped legs, each terminating in finely chased hairy paw castors.

The generous proportions of the underside of this table suggest this piece may have been made in Ireland where indigenous cabinet makers took English forms and accentuated them in their own idiosyncratic manner. For instance, the scale of the brass castors is unusually pronounced and the chasing is reminiscent of carving found in Irish furniture from the 18th century.
