A 19th Century Meiji Period Kutani Double Gourd Vase

£1,450

SOLD

A late 19th century Meiji Period Kutani vase, of double gourd form and decorated throughout wit flying cranes and landscapes.

The appeal of Kutani ware exists in its colourful glazes – ‘uwaetsuke’. Uwaetsuke is the process of colour painting upon kiln fired pots, often in multiple reds, yellows, greens, purples and shades of indigo. Kutani wares vary from kiln to kiln and region to region, while all maintaining a consistently vibrant colour palette.
