£1,950

SOLD

A pair of 19th century porcelain doves.

As with many other cultures, the Chinese too have an inexhaustible list of meanings attached to the dove. These include: long life, fidelity, faithfulness, filial duties and impartiality. During the Han Dynasty, elder members of the community were presented with a staff decorated with pigeons to wish them good health and a long life. This beautiful pair of birds would add wonderful colour to any interior.

Qing Dynasty, Guangxu Period (1875-1908).
