A 19th century famille verte porcelain rouleau vase, decorated throughout with figurative panels on an intricate blue ground.

The rouleau vase as it is known in Europe is called a bangchuiping by the Chinese. This literally speaking means “wooden club”; indeed, the cylindrical body of the vase, its flat shoulders and long neck are reminiscent of this weapon and its handle.
