A 19th Century Qing Dynasty Sang de Boeuf or Flambé Vase

A 19th century flambé vase of baluster form, with deep purple sang de boeuf glazes.

Porcelain was first produced during the Han Dynasty in Jingdezhen, ‘capital of porcelain’; and sang de boeuf or flambé glazes first appeared during the Ming Period. The technique was further perfected during the Qing Dynasty and saw its peak under the emperor Kangxi.

This example has a large amount of blue and purple streaking, making it a particularly attractive and vibrant object.
