A Magnificent 19th Century Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Vase

£1,950

SOLD

A very fine large scale porcelain campagna vase, the scrolling handles with gilded highlights and bearded masks, the body decorated with garlands of roses in polychrome glazes upon a pale green ground.

The Royal Porcelain Factory of Copenhagen was founded in 1775 by the pharmacist Frantz Heinrich Müller and has produced porcelain of exceptional quality ever since.
This campagna vase is distantly related to the Italian versions of the Greek krater. While they traditionally bear images of landscapes, in this instance the vase is extremely well decorated with delicately painted roses.
