A Pair of 16th Century Ming Dynasty Two Handled Vases

£1,450

SOLD

A Pair of 16th century terracotta two handled vases, the bodies with black glazed.

This rare, medieval pair of Chinese vases was crafted from the same material as the famous Terracotta Army (209 – 210 BC). The clay-based earthenware has long been one of the most popular materials for sculpture, reliefs and vessels – in China as well as other parts of the world. Terracotta can be either glazed or unglazed, lending it a more sophisticated or rustic look depending upon the finish. This pair has a thick, iron-rich black glaze, used in Chinese pottery since the 10th century.

Ming Dynasty.

Condition: Old crack in each foot rim.
