A Qing Dynasty Celadon Vase

£1,250

SOLD

A nineteenth century celadon vase with trumpet form neck.

The first recorded types of celadon stem from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 – 220 AD). The mostly pale green wares often have an accentuated crackled glaze and are predominantly minimalist in design. Their name is thought to have been inspired by the protagonist of a well known 17th century French novel, L’Astre, called Celadon who was famously associated with the colour green.

This example is of good scale and decorated in muted botanical motifs.
