An Early 18th Century Blue and White Kangxi Period Porcelain Vase

£1,950

SOLD

An early 18th century blue and white porcelain vase, of baluster form, the body decorated throughout with alternating floral and landscape panels, the lid with similar decoration and shaped finial.

The Emperor Kangxi reigned from 1661-1722. He was the fourth Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. After years of war and chaos, Kangxi’s reign brought stability and prosperity to the whole nation of China, paving the way for continued prosperity under his successors Yongzheng and Qianlong. Porcelain manufacturing also flourished under Kangxi and the Export Market boomed with the shipment of ceramics from Canton to Europe and the Western World. A vase such as this would have been made specifically for a European house and it would have been placed on top of a cabinet as part of a Chinese themed interior.
