A Large Pair of 18th Century Gilt Bronze Figures on Faux Porphyry Socles

£2,900

SOLD

A pair of finely chased ormolu figures of females in the Classical manner: the first bearing a chalice; the second standing before an anvil. Both set upon faux slate and porphyry painted tole socles.

These figures were inspired by Classical mythology. The female with chalice is most probably Hebe – the daughter of Zeus and Hera. Hebe was the cup bearer to the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus.
