An 18th Century George III Period Mahogany Collector’s Cabinet

£1,850

SOLD

An 18th century mahogany ‘collector’s cabinet’, having ten short drawers all with brass stirrup handles and raised on brass bracket feet.

This intriguing type of cabinet was used by English gentlemen for storing artefacts from both home and abroad. Collecting and cataloguing items was of particular interest to antiquarians, such as Sir Hans Solane and Elias Ashmole, in the 17th and 18th century.
