A charming mid-nineteenth century pale decalcomania vase and domed lid, decorated throughout with chinoiseries on a pale blue ground.

This is an unusual example of decalcomania. The decoupage work closely resembles arte povera of the eighteenth century in North Italian painted furniture and decorative objects. The chinoiseries are influenced by the rococo and it is possible that these decorations are hand-coloured engravings form the previous century.
