A Mid 18th Century Landscape of the Port of Venice after Canaletto

This is a good period copy of a subject that Canaletto repeated several times and depicts the Market Square and Antica Posta in the Port of Mestre on the Venetian Lagoon. This is still the main staging post for goods and visitors going to the main city of Venice and has been a busy commercial centre for many hundreds of years. Good period 18th century copies of works by the Great Master are rarer than the many 19th versions. This would most certainly have been painted for the English market and purchased by a Grand Tourist before returning home.
