View of The Piazza San Marco

Oil on Canvas

Apollonio Domenichini (1715 – circa 1770), also referred to as Maestro della Fondazione Langmatt, was an Italian artist who painted vedute and was largely active in Venice in the mid-18th century. In 1757 Domenichini’s name was recorded in the records of the Guild of Venetian painters.

This picture is painted in the vein of Domenichini and the choice of view, figurative depiction, and the application of vivid colours all relate closely to his work.
