Julius Caesar Ibbetson was an English painter, printmaker and writer. During his lifetime he exhibited at the Royal Academy and was a personal draughtsman to Col. Charles Cathcart on the first British Mission to Beijing. Whilst his travels inspired in him an enthusiasm for exotic subject matters, his main interest lay in painting landscapes, such as this fine example exhibited here.
Other examples of his work can be found at the Tate and at the National Portrait Gallery.
