Pair of Views of Venice – Santa Maria Della Salute

£28,000

This pair of finely painted works evokes the spirit of the grand Venetian subjects in the mid-18th Century.
Such was the popularity of these subjects by Canaletto, Guardi and others, that other studios sprang up in Italy and Britain, painting pictures in the same style.

It is interesting to note that a number of eminent 19th Century British painters are recorded as having started their careers by making Canaletto style Venetian paintings.

These two paintings date from the turn of the 19th Century and are attributed to Giovanni Migliara.

Santa Maria Della Salute, commonly known simply as the Salute, is an important Roman Catholic Church and minor basilica located in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the Italian City of Venice.

Piazza San Marco, known in English as the St Mark’s Square, is the principal public square of Venice, where it is generally known just as ‘the Piazza’.
