A Late 19th Century still life oil depicting a melon, a vine branch with grapes, tomatoes, plumbs and hazelnuts on a marble table top.

Oil on canvas. Set within a guilt composite frame. With monogram signature J. J. 96

This still life scene is an evocative depiction of Mediterranean fruits harvested in the late summer months. The composition relates closely to late 17th and early 18th century Netherlandish still life representations. The symbolism of fruit and its association with fecundity is very apparent in this painting.
