A nineteenth century tole tea canister, decorated with a gilded letter ‘B’ and stamped with the maker’s mark, Bartlett & Son of Bristol.

Bartlett & Son were makers of weighing machines and scales, based in Bristol and London. They flourished throughout the second half of the nineteenth century and were also known for their japanned tole tea canisters, such as this example. The company was ultimately acquired by firm of W & T Avery in 1914.
