A fine late 19th century famille rose porcelain ‘Cadogan’ tea pot, decorated throughout with birds and flowers.
A Cadogan teapot is a lidless ewer imitating an inverted Chinese wine pot from the collection of the Earl of Cadogan. It is filled through a tube in the bottom and when turned, its internal structure does not allow any liquid to be released. Though referred to as coffee or tea pots, they most probably only ever held hot water for such beverages, since filling them with dark liquids would have made internal cleaning difficult.
This particular model is shaped like a peach, representing immortality, good health and longevity.
