A 19th Century Regency Period Bronze Reduction of The Warwick Vase

£2,750

SOLD

A very fine early 19th century bronze reduction of the Warwick vase, retaining traces of the original mercury gilding.

The original marble Warwick vase was excavated by Gavin Hamilton at Hadrian’s Villa, Tivoli in about 1771. Sir William Hamilton then took possession of it prior to passing it to his nephew George Greville, 2nd Earl of Warwick. Today the Warwick Vase resides in The Burrell Collection, Glasgow.

In this example, the detailing is exceptionally well cast and the body retains traces of the original gilding.
