A 17th Century Walnut & Ebonised Geometric Mirror

£2,900

SOLD

A fine mid-17th century geometric mirror, the frame of walnut with ebonised mouldings, housing a later plate.

There is a strong geometric aspect to this mirror which is achieved through the layering of thickly applied mouldings in walnut and ebonised timber, offsetting soft brown against rich black elements.

This form relates to other design motifs of the time, such as: plaster ceiling decoration; and the formal planting of garden designs where yew and box hedges are based upon a strict geometry.
