A Late 19th Century Ebonised Empire Style Bouillotte Table
£2,200
SOLD
A late 19th century ebonised buoillotte table, the white marble top with pierced gallery above two drawers and two candle slides, all raised upon turned tapering fluted legs and raised upon brass feet.
Bouillotte was a popular game in 18th century France, continuing into the 19th century and credited with inspiring modern day poker. Although the game could be played upon any table, furniture makers seized the opportunity to produce circular, galleried tables specifically designed for the game. Bouillotte involved between three and five players and worked clockwise, lasting approximately five minutes.
