£1,650

SOLD

Height 13 inches (33.02 cm)
Width 9 1/2 inches (24.13 cm)

A late 19th century Qing Period famille verte jar and cover, decorated throughout with exotic birds amid flowers and foliage.

Part of the “Green Family”, this vase and cover bears an overglaze enamel which is applied after the initial firing and glazing process. This technique dates back to the the Ming Dynasty. Though the colouring scheme of these enamels is most often yellow red, blue, black and green, it is the latter that dominates Famille Verte patterns.

This particular example is decorated in contrasting wild foliage with birds and geometric designs to the top and bottom. Over the years, many antique examples have lost their lids; this piece, however, is intact.

Good Condition with slight hairline to rim.

Qing Dynasty, Gungxu Period (1875 – 1908)
