A Pair of 19th Century Qing Dynasty Crackleware Porcelain Vases

A fine pair of late 19th century pocelain vases with handles, with caramel, orange, black and celadon glazes upon a white crackle ground.

Crazing or crackling glazes refer to a deliberate decorative cracking of the surface of ceramic works of art, achieved by the heating and subsequent cooling of a piece. If, during the cooling process, the glazing of the item contracts more quickly than its ceramic base, it results in horizontal and vertical crackling, adding a highly decorative effect to the even colours of the underlying celadon.
