A Pair of Early 18th Century Qing Dynasty Clobbered Porcelain Vases

£4,800

SOLD

A fine pair of early 18th century square porcelain vases, with 19th century clobbered decoration.

Originally, the term ‘clobbered’ referred to Chinese blue and white export porcelain which, upon arrival in Europe, was altered by adding colourful enamels to its surface. This was done both on the Continent and in the United Kingdom.

In the case of this pair, the additional colouring is bright and fresh, accentuating only relatively small areas of the surface. The original blue and white ground is still part of its design, making this a truly vibrant piece of art.

Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period (1662 – 1722)

Sympathetically restored
