A Chinese Warring States or possibly Qin Grey Pottery Jar with incised marks.
This large and generously shaped pottery jar was made during the Warring States Period (475 – 221 BC) or possibly during the Qin Dynasty (221 – 206 BC). It is made from a relatively high-fired dense grey pottery. It has a smooth burnished surface which has been simply decorated with just three sets of incised twin bands surrounding the shoulder. In places the surface has “sagged” a little either before or during firing. There is a firing crack to the outer lower body and to the edge of the mouth is a defect where the pottery is misshapen; this area comprises all original pottery so the “defect” obviously occurred during manufacture and prior to firing.
