£13,800

SOLD

Pierre Lemoyne was born in Paris in 1605. Little has been known of this artist and his body of work until
quite recently.

Lemoyne went was to become a painter of flowers, fruit and historical painting, entering the Academy on 1 August 1654.
In 1657 he received a commission to paint a series of decorative pictures for the house of Chancellor Pierre Seguier.

Works by Lemoyne (about four paintings signed to date) all display a consistent mastery of realism in painting fruit and a keen sense of observation, showing voluptuous fruit textures throughout.
