A Fine 19th Century Hardwood Centre Table

£4,900

SOLD

A fine 19th century centre table, constructed from a Chinese hardwood, Huali, the cleated top above a pierced frieze and raised upon four legs terminating in claw and ball feet.

This unusual Chinese table follows the tradition of simplicity in its drawing and most unusually incorporates a generously carved claw and ball foot. This motif is closely associated with the George II Period in English furniture design and its presence is evidence of the exchange of ideas between these trading nations in the 18th and 19th centuries.
