A late eighteenth century gilt brass mounted, ebony and ivory veneered tric trac games table, the leather and green baize covered top revealing a recessed playing surface, the panelled sides with drawers and dummy drawers, all raised on turned tapering fluted legs with brass sabots.

Stamped with maker’s mark E AVRIL

Etienne Avril 1748-1791. Maitre Le 23 Novembre 1774

Etienne Avril was an ebeniste who worked during the reign of Louis XVI. He became a master ebeniste in 1774, working in the Rue Charenton, Paris. He was a respected member of the furniture trade and a favourite of Marie-Antoinette. He aided her in the refurbishment of the Chateau de Saint Cloud and supplied furniture to her private apartments at Versailles.
