To check your lipstick, add character to an otherwise dull space or to lend the illusion of depth to a room of any size, hardly any modern-day place does not incorporate at least one example…

The birth of these light reflecting objects can actually be traced back as far as 6000 BC; with the first manufactured versions consisting of polished stone which later morphed into polished copper (such early examples can be found in various parts of the world including Anatolia, South America, Egypt and China, highlighting the importance of ‘reflection’ in every possible culture).
